The digital transformation is no longer a luxury reserved for large systems, but becomes a daily necessity and a key to the competitiveness of all organisations – from small businesses to educational institutions and the public sector. In this transformation, AI plays an increasingly important role, but it also raises a number of questions – from actual application and values, through ethical dilemmas and user trust, to increasingly complex legal frameworks.
EDIH Adria Meetup 2025 brings together experts from different fields – law, entrepreneurship, science and business consulting – to discuss together where we are today and how to prepare for what is coming. The key theme of this year's meeting will be the European Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (EU AI Act), a regulatory framework that already shapes the development and implementation of AI systems throughout the Union and that brings concrete obligations for Croatian entrepreneurs, institutions and developers.
A special lecture will be given by Stefan Martinić, a lawyer specializing in EU law and technology and a member of the working group for the implementation of AI laws in Croatia. Through an overview of current political and legal trends, participants will get closer to what the AI Regulation specifically brings, what steps should be taken already now, how to identify high-risk AI systems and how to align development with regulations, without jeopardizing the innovation potential.
In the panel discussion that follows, different perspectives will merge the legal profession, entrepreneurs and the scientific community. Domagoj Ostojić, founder of Lloyds Digital and Digital Labin Conference, will share his experiences of developing digital products for the European market. Tomislav Ugrin, consultant and CEO of HLB Adria, will raise the question of how AI changes business processes and strategic decision-making in small and medium-sized enterprises. Ivan Lorencin, assistant professor at the Faculty of Informatics in Pula and researcher in the field of AI, brings a look at science and research projects of the application of artificial intelligence in industry and medicine.
The discussion with the panellists will also raise broader questions: whether we are ready to adopt AI technologies, whether we have sufficient knowledge, data and trust for stable development, how AI is changing the way we decide and manage, and whether our region can develop its own identity and competitiveness in the field of AI.
EDIH Adria Meetup 2025 is a meeting place for the profession, science and economy, but also an opportunity for concrete answers, connecting and joint reflection on the future of the digital transformation of the region.
