Our director Damir Medved and director of the Regional Development Agency of Prigoda County and member of the EDIH Adria consortium, Vedran Kružić, were guests on the show Cafe Europe on the Radio River. In the conversation, they presented the goals, results so far and the importance of the European Digital Innovation Hub Adria for the digital development of the region.
As highlighted in the show, the EDIH Adria consortium brings together key players – from industry partners such as Infobip and Ericsson Nikola Tesla, through universities in Rijeka and Pula, to institutions such as STEP RI and SMART RI (PORIN). For the implementation of our activities, we have provided 2,645,000 euros through the program Digital Europe i National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
“EDIH Adria provides a framework for concrete implementation of innovative technological projects. Through many years of cooperation with the University of Rijeka, we have been developing ideas of smart specialisation and innovation ecosystem – we are now putting them into practice through EDIH Adria,” said Vedran Kružić.
Our activities focus in particular on the application of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, with the aim of bringing advanced technologies closer to public administrations and small businesses – precisely those who need them most. “Europe has recognised that there is a gap between universities and end-users, especially in smaller environments. That is why we have assembled an interdisciplinary team and developed an approach that allows testing and implementing solutions tailored to specific local needs," said Damir Medved.
The show also presents examples of good practice: optimization of public transport on the islands, automated transcription of meetings, chatbots that analyze citizens' applications and cooperation with local self-government units such as the City of Kastav or the Municipality of Fužine. The importance of RIMAP platforms (https://rimap.uniri.hr), which brings together more than 150 scientists and over 80 companies with its own development solutions, and becomes a key connecting point for stakeholders in the field of digital transformation. “In the last two and a half years, over 3,000 people have gone through our educations. Changing thinking and investing in data and intangible assets is becoming a new development paradigm for the region," Medved concluded.
