Although digital transformation and a focus on innovation bring many benefits for business, with the development of technology, cyber security threats also grow. As such threats have become more advanced and widespread, organizations need to develop strategic guidelines to protect key business decisions, employee data, and most importantly, sensitive customer and customer information. According to a survey by Check Point Research, at the end of 2021, the number of cyber attacks on organizations reached the number of 925 attempts per week on an individual organization, globally. This negative trend has further increased during 2022 and this year, so it can be concluded that the key question is no longer whether your organization will be attacked, but when.
Unfortunately, with the further development of technology, the danger of cyber criminals is also increasing. Almost every day, new challenges and threats are emerging that all organizations face, not just those that use high-tech solutions in their business. Security threats are constantly growing, and this is further contributed by an increase in the volume of data held by individual organizations, a greater number of operations in the digital environment, as well as hybrid mode of operation. In addition, in addition to insufficient management awareness of the consequences of a successful cyber attack on business, reputation and resilience of the organization, as well as finances, further obstacles to building and strengthening cyber security are also hidden in budget-related constraints, but also in the absence of experts with the necessary knowledge and skills related to cyber security.
Cyber security is at its core the process of protecting information and communication systems, applications and data from attacks, intrusions and other cyber threats. Organizations protect themselves with various precautions, but also anticipate potential risks. Planning is crucial given that it implies a security assessment, possible targets of attacks and their likelihood, but also the impact of the attack on the organization's business. After the identification and analysis of risks, their evaluation and, if necessary, prioritization, and then consideration of possible scenarios, the ideal next step is strategic cyber security planning, i.e. the development of a comprehensive protection plan with clearly stated goals related to the readiness of the organization for potential threats and dangers, accompanying plans, guidelines and procedures, but also - budget. By implementing these steps, potential dangers will not only be addressed and eliminated, but also anticipated, and the organization will be able to act proactively.
Risks and risks related to cyber security are more pronounced in organizations that collect data or work directly with people, since the “leak” of personal data brings immeasurable damage to the organization and its reputation. This applies in particular to organizations that allow payment and/or keep sensitive information such as customer credit card information. Organizations should focus on building a relationship of trust with clients, and this will only be achieved if clients are fully confident that the organization is doing everything possible to protect data. One of the steps is the implementation of security settings based on the so-called “Zero-trust” maxima, according to which none of the users is considered confidential before verification. Such strong authentication builds a bond of trust between all parties involved in the process.

How can EDIH Adria help you?
Artificial intelligence, which, in addition to high-performance computing, is a key technology for which there is a need in the Republic of Croatia, and which is used by members of the project consortium of the EDIH Adria project, can also be used for the autonomy of tasks related to cyber security, in a way that it can identify potential threats and recognize patterns of “malicious” activities that people would probably not be able to perceive. Organizations that have so far completed the Digital Readiness Assessment of the organization have identified security issues among the challenges, through aspects of data processing security, backup, security improvement... Test before Invest With the initiative of users, and depending on the needs and level of competence and digital readiness, EDIH Adria experts propose appropriate solutions for testing digital technology tailored to each individual user.
Education which we will implement are designed taking into account the needs of users, and among the topics will certainly be those related to cyber security. different level of prior knowledge will be taken into account, so the initial, intermediate and advanced level of education will be realized. Thus, through the initial and middle level, we will try to raise awareness of the importance of cyber security in the organization's business and its journey through digital transformation, but also provide concrete advice and examples on how to increase the level of security in business and the online environment. Through the advanced level of education, we will strengthen experts who will in the future be the drivers of the process of digital transformation of Adriatic Croatia and the drivers of the implementation of various digital solutions, and we will be directly focused on solving the problem of lack of experts with the necessary knowledge and skills related to cybersecurity.
